Reasons why
Reasons why

This is a tough one to write on, what rational reasons would anyone want to put themselves through all of this torture for.

I have thought about this and decided that I thrive on challenge, the bigger the better, if I cannot push myself to achieve seemingly impossible things then I get bored and just coast through life and there is nothing worse than just having an OK life.

You see in my training with Tony Robbins I learnt that you need to push yourself in life, and to do it in all areas of life. Sometimes people have a great career and a terrible home life, or else they have great fitness and a terrible work life. I am attempting to combine some massive fitness challenges and to juggle my full time job, my full time business and also to keep my wife and children happy and at the same time enjoy the process.

I dont want to be mediocre, because mediocrity is a catastrophe

I also want to raise a significant amount of money for charity, I have set my target for these three challenges at £10,000 which is a massive amount of money, but then again why aim small, if I said I wanted to raise £2000 I probably could do that with no real pain but to raise £10,000, now that in itself is another ironman.

To see some of the pain I have to look forward to please take a look at one for the iconic Ironman video clips, it is of Julie Moss who was leading the Hawaii Ironman race and began to suffer at the final stretch, to view it please click here

Now if you want true inspiration you simply MUST look at this video. Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father and son team who define for me what Ironman is all about, they are the epitomy of courage, strength and determination. Their will to finish and the love they share happily with the whole world makes Dick truly the greatest Dad I have ever seen. We should all aspire to their heights. I have determined that only crazy mad challenges are enough to push me. I read a great quote today from Bob Proctor that said "If you know how to get to your goals they are not big enough", that seems to sum up what I am all about. People keep asking me why I am doing this and that I must be crazy. My answer is that is fun! Ok, its not that much fun when you are tired and falling asleep after a long ride and your wife is going crazy saying she didn't marry an old git who keeps falling asleep, but in general it is fun! I like the cameraderie of the team, the fact that it is a solo sport and there is no one else to blame and finally that fact that it is crazy and the reactions I get from people when they ask about these challenges.
